Independent Living

N.E.I.G.H.B.O.U.R.S. is the acronym for Normalized Entry In to Generic Housing Based on Unique Required Supports.

Avenue II provides the necessary support to enable people to live in their own homes. All aspects which lead to independent living are emphasized and developed. Supports are based upon the person's wants and needs, with the goal of independence in the community. Some people choose to live on their own while others live with another person with a disability in a home of their choice.

The amount of support necessary is determined through the personal plan and therefore will vary with each individual. Support can range from a few hours a week to twenty four hours a day. In situations where overnight support may be required, Avenue II will provide a non-disabled, live-in roommate, who lives as part of the household, and is on duty from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am.
